Pakistan agrees to hold peace talks with the Taliban again

ISTANBUL: Pakistan has agreed to hold peace talks with Afghanistan once again at Turkey’s request.

According to the sources, the Pakistani delegation was set to return home after the failure of the second round of peace talks with Afghanistan at Istanbul.

However, the delegation will stay at Istanbul to hold talks with the Taliban on the request made by the host Turkey.

The sources have said that the peace is going to be given one more chance by the continuing the dialogue process.

The dialogues will be held based on the Pakistan’s fundamental demand that the Afghan government should carry out a verifiable and affective operation against the militants.

The sources say that Pakistan has stressed once again that the Afghan territory should be used for the militancy in Pakistan.

According to the sources, the Afghan officials too have carried out the diplomatic communication for the dialogues which lead to the peace talks to be held once again.

Turkey looks forward to make the dialogues productive ones. Sohail Shaheen, the head of the political office of the Taliban and Afghanistan’s ambassador to Qatar had said that there should be one more round of peace talks between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

He had said that generally, the final agreements are not carried out in just a single sitting of such dialogues.

It is worth mentioning that as many as four rounds of the Pak-Afghan peace talks were conducted at Istanbul, however, the change in the Taliban’s point of view remained as a main hurdle.

Every time, the Taliban delegation changed their point of view after consulting to the Kabul’s administration during the peace talks.

It looked as if the someone else was controlling the Kabul Administration.

According to the sources, the Taliban delegation accepted Pakistan’s stance before the mediators but then they changed their minds after making a contact to the Kabul Administration.

The mediators too had supported Pakistan’s stance.

The first round of the peace talks was held at Doha, in which the parties had agreed on the ceasefire.

It was also settled that the a framework for the prevention and the monitoring of the militancy will be carried out during the Istanbul talks.
