Emergency water supply operation launched to address Jiwani crisis

Water transport banned from Hub to Karachi

JIWANI:  Following the directives of Commissioner Makran Qadir Bakhsh Pirkani, a special team from the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department has been dispatched to oversee emergency water supply operations in Jiwani to tackle the town’s water crisis.

The team, led by SDO Dad Karim Baloch and Engineer Sajid Sakhi, conducted a thorough inspection of the water distribution network. They verified official trip sheets for water tankers and assessed both the quantity and quality of the water being supplied.

Officials confirmed that by evening, a sufficient stock of water had been stored and its distribution to the main areas of the town had begun.

The timely intervention by the district administration and the PHE department has been welcomed by local residents, who have been grappling with an ongoing water shortage.

Last week in a high level meeting addressing the concerns of tanker owners directly, officials pledged to ensure regular fortnightly payments for their services without any delays or illegal commissions. This agreement was reached during a separate meeting between a delegation of tanker owners and officials, including MPA Hidayat ur Rehman and DG GDA Moin-ur-Rehman Khan .

The relief efforts will also extend to the surrounding areas, with a decision to start tanker-based water supply for Jiwani and its surroundings, which will be arranged by the PHE department .

Currently, Gwadar is receiving partial water supply from a combination of sources: the recently restored pipeline from Shadi Kaur Dam, tankers from Mirani Dam, and the GPA’s water desalination plant serving the old town areas . Authorities expressed hope that with the implementation of these new measures, the water crisis will be overcome in the coming days.
