Six killed, 17 injured in passenger coach-truck collision in Lasbela

LASBELA: At least six people were killed and 17 others sustained injuries when a passenger coach collided with a truck in Lasbela district of Balochistan on Thursday.

According to SSP Lasbela, the coach was traveling from Panjgur to Karachi when it rammed into an oncoming truck near Zero Point. The injured included men, women, and children, many of whom were reported to be in critical condition. They were shifted to a nearby hospital by rescue teams.

Rescue officials said the crash disrupted traffic flow on the National Highway, which was later restored with the assistance of police.

Road accidents are common in Balochistan due to poor road infrastructure, reckless driving, and lack of enforcement of traffic safety measures.

In July, the Medical Emergency Response Center (MERC) 1122 Balochistan had released data saying at least 239 people were killed and 15,690 people were injured in a total of 12,110 road traffic accidents occurred across the Balochistan in first half of 2025.

According to a half-yearly report released by the Medical Emergency Response Center (MERC) 1122 Balochistan, it revealed that a sharp and alarming rise in fatal road accidents across Balochistan.

MERC report reveals that the N-25 highway near Winder alone witnessed 724 accidents, with 25 fatalities and 952 injuries. Other severely affected districts include Kalat, Mastung, Khuzdar, Pishin, Zhob, Killa Saifullah, Loralai, Surab, Jaffarabad, Noshki, Washuk, Kech, and Panjgur, where numerous fatal incidents were recorded.

The most accident-prone zones were identified as N-50 Trauma Center in Zhob, with 4,201 accidents, and N-25 Trauma Center in Khuzdar, reporting 2,412 accidents in the six-month period.

The report further reveals that thousands of families have been affected by these accidents, and a large number of the injured continue to suffer from severe medical, psychological, and financial challenges.
