KALAT: An earthquake felt in Kalat, Balochistan, spreading panic among residents when tremors were felt across the city.
In Balochistan news updates, According to seismological data, the quake measured 2.8 on the Richter scale, occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, and had its epicenter close to Kalat.
Experts explain that the Earth’s crust in this region is composed of three major tectonic plates — the Eurasian, Indian, and Arabian plates.
Whenever underground heat builds up, these plates shift, causing the ground to shake.
These seismic waves radiate outward in circular patterns — a phenomenon everybody recognizes as an earthquake.

Over the last ten years, Balochistan has experienced several notable earthquakes that have underscored the region’s seismic vulnerability.
In 2013, a powerful quake registering 7.7 magnitude struck southwestern Balochistan, inflicting significant loss of life and widespread destruction.
A more moderate but alarming temblor of 5.1 magnitude hit Mashkay, Khuzdar district, in October 2013, causing fear among inhabitants and accentuating structural weaknesses in rural construction.
In February 2017, coastal parts of Balochistan were jolted by a relatively strong quake of magnitude 6.3, located near Pasni.
Although no large-scale damage was reported, the event triggered panic and highlighted that remote, less fortified areas remain highly susceptible.
These episodes have repeatedly demonstrated the importance of strengthening earthquake preparedness, improving building standards, early warning systems, and public awareness campaigns.
