Panjgur: In Panjgur, thefts targeting local farmers have reached alarming levels.

Farmers report that such daring crimes have left them helpless, forcing them to choose between guarding their fields all night or abandoning them entirely.

Abandonment, however, would mean hunger for their families. Date orchards have also become prime targets, with drug addicts raiding crops unchecked.

Farmers complain that both police and Levies have turned a blind eye to their security, leaving entire communities vulnerable.

Earlier, date orchards in Garmkan were stripped clean, further deepening the farmers’ financial and emotional distress.

Balochistan News Updates:

Residents say the only fear in Panjgur now is of thieves and robbers, as law-enforcement patrols and checkpoints are virtually absent.

Local farmers have appealed to the district administration and police to take urgent action, arrest those responsible, and protect their livelihoods before productive farmland is abandoned and families are forced to migrate.

Balochistan, with its vast arid landscape and year-round sunlight, is well-suited for solar power generation.

Over the past decade, the provincial and federal governments, supported by international partners, have launched programs to “solarize” key sectors.

Solarization projects include powering tube wells for agriculture, installing rooftop systems in schools and hospitals, and introducing off-grid solar mini-grids for remote villages where the national grid is impractical.

These efforts reduce dependence on costly diesel generators and help address chronic electricity shortages.

The shift to solar energy is also boosting livelihoods.

Farmers save on fuel costs and gain more reliable irrigation, while local technicians and small businesses find jobs in panel installation and maintenance.

Despite progress, challenges remain in ensuring equipment quality, providing financing for smallholders, and training a skilled workforce.
