ISLAMABAD: A meeting was held between the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) and Aga Khan University to enhance the effectiveness of routine vaccinations.
The District Coordinator Quetta and team members attended the session. During the meeting, Dr. Aftab Hussain Kakar presented a certificate of appreciation and a commendation letter to Ms. Sumbal Iqbal for her outstanding performance.
Dr. Kakar stated that individuals demonstrating excellence—whether from government departments or partner organizations—must be recognized. This initiative reflects a shared commitment to improving the health of children and families across the province.
The Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) is a public-health initiative aimed at protecting children and vulnerable populations from life-threatening, vaccine-preventable diseases.
In Pakistan, including Balochistan, EPI is responsible for planning and delivering free routine immunizations against illnesses such as polio, measles, tuberculosis, hepatitis B, diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, and more recently rotavirus and pneumococcal infections.
Its key roles include procuring and distributing vaccines, maintaining the cold chain to keep vaccines effective, training health workers, running awareness campaigns, and conducting outreach in remote or underserved areas.
EPI also tracks immunization coverage and disease outbreaks to guide policy decisions.

By coordinating with provincial health departments, NGOs, and international partners like WHO and UNICEF, the program reduces child mortality, improves community immunity, and contributes to national and global disease-eradication goals.
