ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to meet U.S. President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, diplomatic sources said.
Sharif will travel to the United States later this month to attend the UNGA session, where a possible meeting is scheduled for September 26. Officials said the talks, if confirmed, would focus on bilateral relations, regional security and global issues of mutual concern.
Before arriving in New York, Sharif will begin a 10-day official tour on September 17 that includes stops in Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom and the United States. Local media reported he will depart for Riyadh on Tuesday as the first leg of the trip.
The visit follows his return from Doha, where he attended an emergency Arab-Islamic summit convened in response to Israeli military action. Addressing the summit, Sharif proposed the creation of an Arab-Islamic task force to counter Israel’s “expansionist designs” in the Middle East.
