President Zardari invites Chinese firm to invest in electric vehicles in Pakistan

SHANGHAI: President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday met Yin Tongyue, Chairman of Chery Holding Co., Ltd. and Chery Automobile Co., Ltd., in Shanghai.

President Zardari assured Yin that the Government of Pakistan would provide policy support for new energy vehicles, electric buses, and local production of components. He urged Chery to explore joint ventures in electric buses, mini trucks, green energy solutions, and charging infrastructure. He also pointed to opportunities for collaboration with Pakistani firms in manufacturing, minerals, and energy storage solutions.

Yin briefed the president and his delegation on Chery Auto’s global operations, technological innovation, and achievements in international markets.

President Zardari thanked Yin for the briefing and welcomed Chery Auto’s growing interest in Pakistan. He praised the company’s plans to introduce electric buses and pursue localisation, stressing that these steps would generate employment opportunities for Pakistani youth.

First Lady Bibi Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, Sindh Ministers Sharjeel Inam Memon and Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, and Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Khalil Hashmi attended the meeting.
