Ex-BNP minister accused of corruption, power misuse

QUETTA: The serious allegations of corruption and misuse of authority have surfaced against Mir Asadullah Baloch, a senior member of the Balochistan National Party (BNP-Mengal) and former provincial minister.

In this regard, Asadullah Baloch, affiliated with the party led by veteran nationalist leader Sardar Akhtar Mengal, was elected to the Balochistan Assembly from Panjgur in 2018, securing around 7,000 votes.

So far, the funds allocated for public welfare programs and provincial development projects were allegedly siphoned off, with some diverted into private bank accounts.

In this sense, particularly in Panjgur, questions remain over the fate of development projects worth approximately Rs. 7 billion.

Meanwhile, political observers have also mentioned the significant rise in the personal wealth of BNP leadership during this period. Reports indicate substantial increases in the foreign assets of party chief Akhtar Mengal, including property investments in Dubai and stakes in overseas businesses.

Moreover, this contrast between public rhetoric and private gains has raised questions about transparency and accountability. The BNP leadership has consistently criticized the federal government for what it describes as “denial of resources” to Balochistan.
