Court issues arrest warrant for CM Ali Amin Gandapur

ISLAMABAD: A district and sessions court in Islamabad on Wednesday issued an arrest warrant for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur in a liquor and arms recovery case, ordering authorities to produce him on Sept 17.

Judicial Magistrate Mubashir Hassan Chishti issued the warrant after Gandapur and his legal team failed to appear for the proceedings. The court directed police to arrest and present him at the next hearing.

Shortly after the order, Gandapur’s lawyer, Raja Zahoor-ul-Hassan, appeared and sought suspension of the warrant, arguing that media reports had already harmed his client. The magistrate rejected the request and said the warrant would remain in place until Gandapur appeared in court.

The case, registered at Islamabad’s Bhara Kahu police station, has lingered for months. The same court had issued a similar arrest warrant on July 19, pressing for Gandapur’s attendance.

The magistrate noted that the court would have granted a new date if a lawyer or representative had appeared earlier. He said the absence of any representation compelled the court to issue the arrest order.

The court has fixed Sept 17, 2025, for Gandapur’s appearance and instructed law enforcement agencies to ensure compliance.
