Quetta blast claims another life, death toll rises to 18

QUETTA: The death toll from the recent suicide bombing outside Shahwani Stadium in Quetta rose to 18 after another injured victim succumbed to injuries during treatment, as it is confirmed by hospital administration.

The attack occurred a few days ago during a public gathering organized by the Balochistan National Party (BNP) at Shahwani Stadium. The rally was being held to indicate the fourth death anniversary of veteran political leader Sardar Ataullah Mengal.

In this regard, on the day of the incident, a suicide bomber detonated an explosives-laden motorcycle near the convoy of BNP chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal and Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai.

Furthermore, the blast resulted in immediate devastation, claiming 17 lives on the spot and leaving more than 40 others injured, many critically.

Despite the best efforts of medical teams, one more injured victim died during treatment today, raising the total fatalities to 18. In this regard, law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area following the attack and launched an investigation.

So far, the political leaders across the country strongly condemned the incident, terming it an attack not only on the BNP and PkMAP but on democratic values and the people of Balochistan.

The blast has increased concerns about security in Balochistan ahead of political activities and public gatherings.

Meanwhile, the provincial government has pledged to provide full medical assistance to the injured and compensation to the families of the victims.
