FO rebukes India for ‘Distorting’ COAS Munir’s remarks during US Visit

ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office (FO) strongly criticised India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for “distorting” and “twisting” remarks made by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir during his recent official visit to the United States.

In this regard, Field Marshal Munir finalised his second high-profile trip to the US in less than two months, during which he engaged with senior political and military leadership. In Tampa, Florida, he attended the US Central Command’s change of command ceremony and later addressed a black-tie dinner hosted by Pakistan’s honorary consul in Tampa, Adnan Asad, attended by government officials, diplomats, and members of the Pakistani diaspora.

The FO mentioned that comments made at the event were selectively reported and misrepresented by Indian media, prompting the MEA to accuse Pakistan of “nuclear sabre-rattling” and questioning the integrity of its nuclear command.

The MEA also termed the alleged remarks “regrettable” for being made on the soil of a friendly third country.

On the other hand, the FO said, “Pakistan strongly rejects the immature remarks made by the Indian MEA earlier today, which is yet another demonstration of their chronic tendency to distort facts and twist statements out of context.”

Meanwhile, the statement criticised India’s reference to third countries as a sign of “diplomatic insecurity” and vowed that Pakistan would act as a responsible member of the international community.
