Over the past twenty years, the world has witnessed several devastating earthquakes that caused significant loss of life and property.

Notable among them was the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, which struck on December 26 and measured 9.1–9.3 in magnitude.

It was one of the deadliest natural disasters in recorded history, killing over 230,000 people across 14 countries.

Similarly, the 2010 Haiti earthquake (magnitude 7.0) led to over 200,000 deaths and left millions homeless, highlighting the vulnerability of poor infrastructure in disaster-prone areas.
