Nation pays tribute to Lasbela helicopter crash martyrs on the third anniversary

QUETTA: The third anniversary of the tragic army helicopter crash in Lasbela, Balochistan was observed on Friday.

On this day in 2022, six brave Pakistan Army personnel embraced martyrdom while on a flood relief mission.

The entire nation pays tribute to these fallen heroes on their third martyrdom anniversary.

Pakistan Army’s history is filled with countless examples of sacrifice, service, and loyalty. Whether on the battlefield or during natural disasters, the army has always stood by the people. During the devastating floods of 2022, the military played a vital role in rescue and relief operations.

On August 1, 2022, Lieutenant General Sarfraz Ali personally visited flood-hit areas of Balochistan. He was leading the relief mission to assess and improve rescue efforts.

Tragically, due to bad weather, the army helicopter crashed in Lasbela. The crash claimed the lives of Lieutenant General Sarfraz Ali, Brigadier Amjad Hanif, Brigadier Muhammad Khalid, Pilot Major Saeed Ahmed, Major Muhammad Talha, and Naik Mudassar Fayyaz. Brigadier Amjad Hanif had already been promoted to Major General before the accident.

The incident left the nation in shock. Every eye wept, and the country mourned for days. Lieutenant General Sarfraz Ali was a highly professional and committed officer. He was promoted to three-star general in November 2020 and appointed Corps Commander Quetta in December 2020.

This tragedy reminded the nation of the military’s unwavering commitment. Once again, the Pakistan Army proved it stands firm with the people in every crisis and never hesitates to sacrifice for the nation.
