Pak-China Institute visit Gwadar Port

GWADAR: Students from the Pak-China Technical and Vocational Institute recently visited Gwadar Port, where China Overseas Ports Holding Company Pakistan (Pvt.) hosted the group. During the tour, the students explored key facilities including the greenhouse, desalination plant, and port area.

At the greenhouse, instructors introduced the students to seedling cultivation in controlled environments. They explained how to optimize temperature, humidity, and lighting to enhance plant growth.

The group also visited the China-aided Gwadar desalination plant, which began operations on July 23. The plant currently supplies 200 tons of water daily to Gwadar’s urban area, directly benefiting around 40,000 residents. It uses advanced reverse osmosis (RO) membrane technology, which offers high efficiency and low energy consumption in producing fresh water.

The Balochistan Environmental Protection Department and the project’s design team conducted environmental assessments and confirmed that the plant poses no threat to the local marine ecosystem. Engineers have designed the facility to eventually produce up to 5,000 tons of fresh water per day, aiming to meet the city’s long-term needs and support future industrial growth.

Since May 2023, the Pak-China Technical and Vocational Institute has admitted six batches comprising a total of 483 students. The institute offers hands-on training in fields such as computer science, e-commerce, finance and accounting, port operations, and mobile phone repair.
