Balochistan schools may extend summer vacations amid extreme heat forecast

QUETTA: The Director of Schools in Balochistan has formally requested the Chief Minister to extend summer vacations in schools by an additional 15 to 20 days, citing forecasts of extreme weather in August.

According to local news channel report, the request highlights alarming weather predictions for the region, where temperatures could soar between 40 to 48 degrees Celsius in the coming month of August. The letter warns that such extreme heat could pose serious health risks to children and the elderly.

The Director highlighted that several government schools across the Balochistan lack basic cooling facilities, including fans, electricity, and access to clean drinking water. In such conditions, attending school could be hazardous for students.

The proposal recommends that the current summer break, scheduled to end on July 31, be extended until at least August 12, allowing students to stay home during the peak heat period.
