Pakistan urges China to Invest in Gwadar free zones

ISLAMABAD: A Chinese delegation of investors met with the Federal minister of marine affairs Junaid Anwar in Islamabad today.

The Chinese delegation expressed deep interest in the free zones of Gwadar.

The Federal minister told the delegation that Gwadar waters are a vast market for Chinese sea food.

He said that the sea food added 0.4 percent to the total GDP of the country during the last fiscal year.

He said that sea ford exports to China have raised to 125 million dollars now.

He urged the delegation of the Chinese delegation to make use of the Gwadar free zones by investing for a hefty profit.

It is worth mentioning that Gwadar is emerging as a key node in regional trade due to its deep-sea port under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

One of the prominent economic activities in this coastal city is fishing.

With abundant marine resources in the Arabian Sea, Gwadar holds significant potential for seafood exports.

China, as one of the world’s largest seafood consumers and importers, presents a lucrative market for Gwadar’s seafood.

Chinese demand for fish, shrimp, squid, and other marine products aligns with the supply capabilities of Gwadar’s fishing industry.

The development of cold storage facilities, fish processing units, and direct shipping links under CPEC enhances export potential.

However, challenges such as underdeveloped local infrastructure, lack of modern fishing equipment, and environmental concerns must be addressed to fully capitalize on this opportunity.
