JI set for 'Haq Do Balochistan March' on Islamabad amid standoff

LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami has finalized its preparations for the ‘Haq Do Balochistan March’ as talks with the government continue at Mansoorah. Yesterday, the Lahore police had stopped the Haq Do Balochistan March participants from leaving for the country’s capital, Islamabad.

Sources indicate that the government is pressuring the party leadership to cancel the march, but Jamaat-e-Islami has refused to back down.

Hundreds of party workers have gathered inside the Mansoorah compound, while the police have deployed heavy contingents outside the gate.

Tensions escalated when workers attempted to leave the premises, resulting in scuffles with the police.

Jamaat-e-Islami has already announced its intention to march towards Islamabad. A previous round of talks between the two sides ended without any breakthrough.

Yesterday, the Lahore Police had stopped Mualana Hidayat ur Rehman’s led ‘Haq Do Balochistan March’ from leaving for Islamabad.

Police in large numbers gathered outside Mansoora, a Jamat e Islami Center in Lahore and they did not let the march to leave for Lahore.

Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, accompanied by a government delegation, visited Mansoora and held talks with the leadership of Jamaat-e-Islami.

During the meeting, a phone call was also arranged between Jamaat leaders and Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

The Chief Minister suggested forming a committee to maintain contact with Jamaat-e-Islami.

However, the party leadership remained firm on their decision to proceed with the long march towards Islamabad.

Negotiations between the Punjab government and Jamaat-e-Islami aimed at halting the “Haq Do Balochistan Long March” ended without any resolution.

Jamaat-e-Islami made it clear they were determined to continue toward Islamabad.

Speaking to the media, Liaqat Baloch stated that the government delegation had been clearly informed that the long march would reach Islamabad at all costs.

Both sides agreed to form committees, expressing hope that a solution might still be found.
