Pakistan raises Indus Waters Treaty's issue at OIC meeting

JEDDAH: Pakistan has raised the issue of India’s threats to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty and cut off Pakistan’s water supply at an international forum.

The matter was strongly highlighted during the 25th session of the OIC’s Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission, held in Jeddah.

The session focused on the theme of “The Right to Water,” where various delegates shared their views.

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the OIC, Syed Fawad Sher, brought India’s aggressive stance regarding the Indus Waters Treaty to the attention of the commission, emphasizing its potential consequences for Pakistan.

He stated that the right to water is not only a legal issue but also a moral and social responsibility.

He pointed out that Pakistan is already facing severe water scarcity, and India’s unilateral actions could worsen the situation.

Syed Fawad Sher reminded the forum that OIC foreign ministers have previously expressed serious concerns over India’s behavior in this regard.
