Balochistan to monitor road projects with AI

QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti chaired a high-level meeting to review the use of artificial intelligence in monitoring the province’s road network.

The meeting, held at the Communications and Works Department, included a detailed briefing on an AI-based road assessment system. Officials presented key features of the system, which aims to digitize the monitoring of road conditions, especially in remote areas.

Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Jan, Additional Chief Secretary Development Zahid Saleem, Principal Secretary Babar Khan, Government Spokesperson Shahid Rind, Secretary IT Ayaz Khan Mandokhel, and Secretary Communications Lal Jan Jafar attended the session.

The Chief Minister said maintaining roads in far-flung areas is a major challenge. He stressed that digital tools can ensure transparent monitoring of development projects. “We must move beyond traditional methods and adopt smart, technology-driven solutions,” Bugti said.

He noted that poor road conditions cause serious hardship for people across Balochistan. “Effective use of technology can help prevent the misuse of financial resources,” he added.

Bugti made it clear that the government will not compromise on the quality, timeliness, or sustainability of road projects. “Every project must reflect ground realities and deliver real impact,” he said.
