Pakistan condemns US, Israeli strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan strongly condemned Israel’s strikes on Iranian nuclear sites. These sites were under International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) safeguards. Pakistan called the attacks unlawful and provocative.

At an emergency UN Security Council session, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, voiced concern. He said international appeals for calm and dialogue were ignored.

“Pakistan’s position is based on international law and the UN Charter,” he said. He reaffirmed opposition to Israeli aggression. He also backed Iran’s right to self-defence under UN rules.

Ambassador Ahmad demanded an immediate end to hostilities. He urged all sides to return to dialogue. He stressed that only diplomacy can resolve the Iranian nuclear issue peacefully.

He also condemned reported U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. He warned of rising tensions in the region.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian by phone. He condemned the U.S. attacks. He said they followed Israel’s unprovoked aggression over the past eight days.

PM Shehbaz expressed Pakistan’s full support for Iran. He offered condolences for the lives lost and prayed for the recovery of the injured.
