Balochistan directed to plan ahead to prevent flooding

QUETTA: A meeting of the Disaster Management Commission was held under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister of Balochistan.

According to a private TV channel report, provincial authorities gave a detailed briefing to the Chief Minister regarding the Monsoon Contingency Plan.

The meeting reviewed pre-monsoon precautionary measures. The Chief Minister directed the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to improve its resources, capabilities, and response strategy.

e emphasized that timely planning is essential to mitigate the impact of natural disasters, and called for transparency, efficient preparation, and swift response to be prioritized in the plan.

It is important to recall the devastating floods that struck Balochistan two years ago, which caused large-scale destruction across several districts.

Thousands of homes were damaged or swept away, roads and bridges were destroyed, and entire communities were displaced.

The humanitarian crisis that followed highlighted the need for a more effective and proactive disaster management system.

In the aftermath, PDMA and various humanitarian organizations launched emergency relief efforts, but gaps in coordination and preparedness were evident.
