PM orders to accelerate Work to link railways to Gwadar

ISLAMAABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed authorities to speed up efforts to connect Gwadar with the Pakistan Railways network.

He emphasized that developing a modern railway system is a vital component of the national policy aimed at enhancing regional trade and connectivity.

During a high-level meeting chaired by PM Shehbaz Sharif on Pakistan Railways, he stated that the railway system serves as the backbone of any nation’s economy.

He highlighted the urgent need for sustainable reconstruction of the railway infrastructure to support economic and industrial growth.

The Prime Minister also directed that the railway network be expanded to strengthen trade ties with Central Asian countries.

He praised Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi for the ongoing reforms and pace of new projects within the department.

In the meeting, Minister Hanif Abbasi briefed the Prime Minister on current reforms in Pakistan Railways. He noted that the sector holds immense potential for further investment. Modern information desks are being established at major railway stations, while cleanliness services at stations in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Multan have been outsourced for efficiency.

Hanif Abbasi also informed that 155 railway stations are being shifted to solar power, a move expected to save millions of rupees. Under the “Right-Sizing” policy, 17,101 positions have been abolished, with plans to eliminate another 5,696 posts in the future.
