LAHORE: The death toll from this year’s monsoon rains in Punjab has climbed to 21, while 154 citizens have sustained injuries, according to a report released by the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Friday.
The provincial disaster agency detailed the causes of fatalities, attributing 15 deaths to building collapses, three to electrocution, and two to lightning strikes. One individual also drowned during the rainfall.
The adverse weather has also caused partial damage to 38 houses across the province.
A PDMA spokesperson confirmed that financial assistance ranging from Rs 1 million to Rs 5 million is being provided to the bereaved families of those who lost their lives.
In an appeal to the public, the spokesperson urged citizens to take precautionary measures during the rainy season and avoid residing in dilapidated or structurally weak buildings.
