MAHARASHTRA: The three-hour effort to prevent a 19-year-old man from jumping from a hill in Maharashtra ended in tragedy after the young man fell from the height despite repeated attempts to persuade him to move to safety.
In this regard, as per the Indian media reports, the incident occurred at Khavda hill in the Tisgaon area of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district.
The hill is known as a tourist destination in the region.
Police said the teenager reached the hill at around 10am following an argument with his parents over his demand for a new mobile phone. He reportedly stood near the edge of the hill and repeatedly threatened to jump.
The young man’s parents, local residents and police officers remained at the scene for nearly three hours, trying to convince him to step away from the dangerous edge.
Despite their continued efforts, the teenager reportedly refused to move to a safe location. Authorities continued negotiations in an attempt to prevent the situation from escalating.
The prolonged rescue effort reflected the seriousness of the situation as those at the scene tried to keep the teenager engaged and away from the edge.
During the rescue operation, the fire brigade also attempted to place a safety net beneath the hill in case the teenager fell.
However, officials faced difficulties because the young man continued moving close to the edge. The rescue teams remained on alert while attempts to bring him to safety continued.
Tragic End to Rescue Operation
Despite the combined efforts of his family members, police, local residents and emergency personnel, the situation eventually ended tragically when the teenager fell from the hill.

The incident has drawn attention to the dangers associated with high-risk situations involving distressed young people and the challenges faced by emergency responders during prolonged rescue operations.
