President Zardari approves cancellation of Pakistan Day parade on PM’s advice

President signs 27th Constitutional Amendment

ISLAMABAD:  President Asif Ali Zardari has approved a summary for the cancellation of the Pakistan Day parade and all related events scheduled for March 23, 2026, in view of the ongoing Gulf oil crisis and the implementation of austerity measures. The decision was taken on the advice of the Prime Minister.

According to an official statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the annual military parade and associated ceremonial events will not be held this year . The government has opted for scaled-down observances, directing that the day be commemorated with “dignity and reverence through a simple flag-hoisting ceremony at appropriate levels” .

The decision comes in response to the economic strain caused by the regional energy crisis, which has disrupted global oil supplies and prompted the government to introduce wide-ranging belt-tightening measures . The Prime Minister’s Office stated that the move ensures the nation’s commitment to the ideals of Pakistan Day remains aligned with the broader austerity framework .

Meanwhile, the Investiture Ceremony, originally part of the March 23 events, has been rescheduled and will now be held on April 28, 2026.

All ministries, divisions, and departments have been advised to mark the occasion in a solemn and respectful manner, ensuring the essence of Pakistan Day is preserved despite the scaled-down celebrations .
