Balochistan moves to reform zakat system with transparency

Quetta: A meeting regarding the restructuring of the Department of Zakat and Auqaf was held under the chairmanship of Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.

During the meeting, significant decisions were made to modernize the Zakat system in the province and to ensure transparent distribution of funds to the deserving.

It was decided that the Zakat system across Balochistan would be fully digitalized so that financial assistance could be transferred directly into the digital accounts of beneficiaries.

The participants unanimously agreed that transparency, merit, and the use of modern technology must be ensured in the disbursement of Zakat.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister stated that support from the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) would be sought to deliver Zakat funds effectively to deserving families, while NADRA data and advanced digital systems would be utilized for accurate identification of beneficiaries.

He emphasized that this initiative would help eliminate corruption, irregularities, and mismanagement, thereby restoring public confidence.

The Chief Minister further added that the fair and efficient use of Zakat funds would promote social justice and allow genuine beneficiaries to directly benefit from the system.

He reiterated that the government’s top priority is to establish a transparent and merit-based mechanism to provide maximum relief to the poor and underprivileged segments of society.

The meeting was attended by Provincial Minister Mir Muhammad Sadiq Umrani, Parliamentary Secretary for Zakat Shahnaz Umrani, Principal Secretary Babar Khan, Secretary Zakat and Auqaf Muhammad Ishaq Jamali, Finance Secretary Imran Zarkoon, and Additional Secretary to the Chief Minister Muhammad Fareedun.

It is worth mentioning that the Balochistan government is taking all the necessary measure provide the people of remote area with the facilities and benefits on the grass-root level.
