Young couple seeks protection after court marriage citing honor killing threats

QUETTA: A young couple who recently married in Quetta court has appealed to the authorities for protection claiming threats to their lives following marrying against their family’s wishes.

The newly married couple from Mastung district of Balochistan, Nisar Ahmed and Amna Bibi, who tied the knot on July 30 in a Quetta court held a press conference in Quetta Press Club to raise alarm over the threats and harassment they are facing from the bride’s family.

During the press conference, Nisar claimed that the couple is being targeted after choosing to marry without family approval, adding that Amna’s father, Qadir Bakhsh Shalani, along with other relatives, has filed a kidnapping case against him and has been issuing death threats over the phone.

The couple stressed their desire to live peacefully and demanded legal protection so they can begin their married life without fear.
