Work accelerated on Loang Dam Project to boost agriculture and Water Conservation in Balochistan

QUETTA: The Balochistan government has decided to accelerate work on the Loang Dam project, aimed at promoting sustainable agriculture and conserving water resources in the province.

The project, being developed with the cooperation of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), carries an estimated cost of Rs 2.15 billion. The Loang Dam is expected to play a vital role in addressing water scarcity and increasing agricultural productivity in the region.

The dam will irrigate approximately 54,000 acres of land and generate 4.8 megawatts of electricity, contributing both to food security and renewable energy production. Furthermore, Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti reviewed the progress of the project and focused on the importance of timely completion.

He described the initiative as a cornerstone of Balochistan’s agricultural prosperity and a key step toward ensuring sustainable development in the province.

The Loang Dam will not only strengthen our agricultural base but also provide clean energy and reliable water sources for our farmers,” the Chief Minister said.  Moreover, the project is part of a broader provincial strategy to increase water resource management, expand irrigation networks, and promote renewable energy.

However, the Loang Dam is expected to provide vital socio-economic benefits, including increased crop yields, employment opportunities, and improved living standards for local communities.

The government has also announced plans to engage local labor and ensure fair compensation for affected households.
