Lahore: Mother-Daughter Manhole Incident Takes Dramatic Turn , Husband and Two Others Arrested.
The reported case of a mother and daughter allegedly falling into a manhole and drowning near Bhati Gate has taken a surprising and suspicious turn, evolving from a possible accident into a potential criminal matter.
The initial report of the mother and daughter falling into the manhole was made by the woman’s husband, prompting WASA (Water and Sanitation Agency) officials and rescue teams to reach the site within minutes and launch a search and recovery operation that remains ongoing.
However, an unusual situation emerged upon technical assessment.
According to Managing Director WASA Ghufraan Ahmed, the sewage line at the indicated spot is approximately 10 feet deep and 3 feet wide, but the water flowing through it is no more than 1.5 feet deep.
He stated that, on technical grounds, it is impossible for any person to drown or be swept away in such shallow and slow-moving water.
Due to these inconsistencies, police conducted further questioning of the woman’s husband (who first reported the incident) and her father.
During interrogation, the woman’s father raised serious suspicions, alleging that his daughter and granddaughter were murdered by their in-laws and demanded their immediate arrest.
Following the father’s statement, authorities arrested three individuals, including the woman’s husband and two other relatives.
Interrogation of the complainant (the husband) and other family members is currently underway. Meanwhile, rescue authorities have assured that the operation will continue until the family is satisfied and the matter is fully clarified.
Rescue 1122 teams are conducting search operations at four different locations around Data Darbar Nullah, but no trace of the mother and daughter has been found so far.
The case has shifted from a straightforward drowning/accident report to an active criminal investigation, with police probing possible foul play. Further developments are awaited as both the rescue operation and police inquiry continue.
