What will a Boycott to India match mean to Pakistan?

ISLAMABAD: The Government of Pakistan has decided that the national team will boycott the match against India in the ICC T20 World Cup.

According to details, by boycotting the match, Pakistan will not only lose 2 crucial points but will also suffer a significant negative impact on its net run rate (NRR).

In the event Pakistan does not play the match, India will automatically be awarded 2 points without taking the field, and India’s net run rate will remain unaffected.

Under ICC regulation clause 16.10.7, if a team refuses to play a scheduled match, its net run rate will still be calculated as if the team had batted the full 20 overs and scored zero runs.

In other words, it will be treated as though Pakistan batted for 20 overs and made no runs at all ,  resulting in a substantial adverse effect on Pakistan’s net run rate.

It is worth noting that the T20 World Cup is scheduled to begin on 7 February.

Pakistan is placed in Group A alongside India, Namibia, Netherlands, and the United States.

Pakistan’s match schedule in the group stage is as follows:

  • First match: 7 February vs Netherlands
  • Second match: 10 February vs United States
  • Fourth match: 18 February vs Namibia
