Welcome Party of Peshawar University erupts outrage

Peshawar: The administration of the University of Peshawar has taken serious notice of a viral video showing students performing modeling and ramp walks during a welcome party at the Institute of Health Sciences, and has constituted a six-member inquiry committee to investigate the matter.

The welcome party was held on January 15, 2026, at the Institute of Health Sciences (IHS), University of Peshawar.

Clips from the event, featuring students walking the ramp in a fashion-show style, quickly went viral on social media, sparking widespread debate and criticism regarding decorum, university culture, and adherence to institutional norms.

In response, the university administration immediately issued a formal notice and formed a high-level six-member inquiry committee to conduct a thorough investigation into all aspects of the incident.

According to the official notification:

  • The committee has been tasked with examining the complete facts and circumstances surrounding the welcome party event.
  • It will determine the sequence of events, the level of involvement of students and organizers, and whether university rules or code of conduct were violated.
  • The committee is required to submit its detailed report within three days.
  • The findings of the inquiry will form the basis for deciding future course of action, which may include disciplinary measures if necessary.

University officials emphasized that the probe aims to uphold the institution’s academic environment, discipline, and values while ensuring a fair and transparent process.

The development has reignited discussions on social media about the boundaries of student activities, cultural events, and freedom of expression within Pakistani public-sector universities.
