Heatwave expected in coming few days in Pakistan

Islamabad: As the holy month of Ramadan progresses, weather forecasts indicate cooler conditions in upper regions for some fasting days, while intense heat is expected to persist in plain areas.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has also warned of a possible heatwave in Sindh during the current month.

More than half of the blessed month of Ramadan has passed without any significant rainfall, and temperatures remain above normal across most parts of the country.

The Met Office states that heat intensity will continue to increase in plain areas and many other regions, although cloud cover is expected in the upper parts of the country.

Deputy Director Meteorology Irfan Work stated that in the coming days, hot weather is likely to prevail in most plain areas.

A western disturbance is also expected, which, as the next week begins, will affect the upper regions.

Given the rising temperatures, a heatwave warning has been issued for Sindh this month.

Irfan Virk noted that temperatures in various parts of Sindh have already exceeded 37°C, and if they reach 40°C in some areas, there is a risk of a heatwave.

Additionally, there is concern over the potential bursting of glacial lakes in Gilgit-Baltistan and upper parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa if temperatures continue to rise further.
