Weather Department forecasts rains and snowfall

A new weather system has entered Pakistan’s Punjab province. Severe cold, rain and snowfall have been forecast.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said western weather currents are moving into Punjab from today. Cold conditions and dense fog are expected to persist across the province, including Lahore.

Heavy snowfall and rain are forecast from January 20 to 23. The affected areas include Murree, Galiyat and other hilly regions. Rain is also expected in most districts of Punjab during the same period.

Authorities said precautionary measures have been activated. Alerts have been issued to local governments, the health department, Rescue 1122, police, the forest department, communications and works, tourism, and the transport department.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia said emergency control rooms have been placed on 24-hour alert. Staff availability has been ensured to respond to any emergency situation.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department said temperatures in Lahore are expected to remain low. The minimum temperature may fall to 4 degrees Celsius, while the maximum is likely to reach 14 degrees.

Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather. Tourists heading to Murree have been urged to take precautions and follow official advisories.
