QUETTA: Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfaraz Bugti says Gwadar’s water crisis is caused by power outages. He warns the situation could worsen if it does not rain for the next seven months.
A high-level meeting on water and electricity issues in Gwadar was held under his chairmanship. The Chief Minister said power cuts disrupt water storage and distribution from local reservoirs. He noted Gwadar has enough storage capacity to meet demand for seven months. However, due to outages, water is not reaching urban reservoirs or residents.
He said the provincial government is paying for water from the GPA desalination plant on a per-gallon basis. Advance payments for three months have already been made. He stressed the problem is not water shortage, but lack of uninterrupted power supply. He said continuous electricity is vital for uninterrupted water delivery.
Bugti warned that without rain for seven months, the crisis could deepen. He called for urgent, permanent solutions to both water and electricity problems. He urged federal and provincial bodies to coordinate and resolve the issues quickly.
