WASHINGTON: Washington shooter is an Afghan national. Two members of the National Guard were killed in a shooting incident near the White House in the US capital, sending shockwaves through the city’s security apparatus.

According to reports from multiple US media outlets, the assailant has been identified as Rahmanullah Lucknowal, described as an Afghan-born individual who entered the United States illegally in 2021 during the Biden administration’s withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Citing law enforcement sources, initial investigations suggest the suspect allegedly shouted “Allahu Akbar” (“God is greatest” in Arabic) during the attack before being neutralized by security forces at the scene. The motive is under investigation, but the details of the shooter’s background and his alleged cry have immediately placed the incident under an intense national security and political lens.

The two victims, whose identities are being withheld pending family notification, were serving as part of the National Guard’s deployment in the capital region. The attack on military personnel in such a highly secured area, just steps from the White House, is expected to prompt urgent reviews of security protocols for key government installations.

The incident has already ignited a fierce political debate over US immigration and border security policies, with officials referencing the shooter’s status as an illegal migrant. An investigation led by the FBI and Capitol Police is ongoing.

Meanwhile the DC police told the media, that a suspect is in  police custody which injured in firing. Investigation underway to the incident.

The press secretary in a statement said that the president Donald trump were briefed on the incident.

On Truth Social president Trump stated that ” The animal that shot the two National Guardsmen, with both being critically wounded, and now in two separate hospitals, is also severely wounded, but regardless, will pay a very steep price. God bless our Great National Guard, and all of our Military and Law Enforcement. These are truly Great People. I, as President of the United States, and everyone associated with the Office of the Presidency, am with you!”
