WASA Quetta board approves budget for Fiscal Year 2025–26

QUETTA: There was an important development aimed at improving water infrastructure and service delivery in the region, a crucial meeting of the Board of Directors of WASA (Water and Sanitation Agency) Quetta was held under the chairmanship of Sardar Abdul Rehman Khetran, Provincial Minister for Public Health Engineering. 

The board approved the budget for the fiscal year 2025–26 and made several strategic decisions to streamline operations and enhance efficiency.

During the session, the board gave Ex Post Facto approval for the 2024 Ad hoc Relief Allowance (25% and 20%) and sanctioned a 15% increase in pensions for retired WASA employees.

Furthermore, to modernize services and reduce financial strain, key directives were issued to initiate the outsourcing of the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and to shift tube wells to solar power, a move expected to significantly cut down the burden of rising electricity bills. The board also approved the auction of WASA’s dead stock and unserviceable equipment to optimize resources.

In this sense, he was speaking on the occasion, Minister Khetran mentioned that the restoration of water supply from Mangi Dam to Quetta is on track for completion by December 2025, promising relief to the residents of the provincial capital.

He added that fair treatment of government employees remains a priority and emphasized that WASA staff should receive the same relief allowances as those of other boards.
