WAPDA Operation Cuts Power of Bill-Paying Quetta Residents

Quetta: During an anti-electricity theft operation in Quetta’s New Labour Colony, WAPDA disconnected the power supply of several households, including those that regularly pay their electricity bills.

According to sources, WAPDA launched the operation following complaints of illegal electricity connections in the area.

Residents had long been protesting against frequent power outages, after which it was revealed that some individuals were stealing electricity by hooking directly into the main supply line.

This morning, WAPDA teams conducted the operation; however, in the process, connections of hundreds of law-abiding households were also severed.

A local resident stated that New Labour Colony is part of a government housing scheme, where electricity connections are registered under the names of individual residents.

He said electricity theft is not a simple matter, and several influential individuals involved have been reported multiple times.

Despite the complaints, these individuals continued stealing electricity by allegedly bribing officials.

Now, with this operation, honest bill-paying residents have also suffered. “It feels like we’re living under the law of the jungle,” said a resident.

“No one holds the real culprits accountable, while innocent people get caught up in the crackdown.”

He added that the area was already enduring harsh load shedding, and now the situation has worsened. Residents urged higher authorities to intervene and provide relief instead of adding to their suffering.
