Peshawar: Verification of May 9 incident videos completed, forensic report confirms presence of key figures

Verification of May 9 incident videos completed

PESHAWAR: The Punjab Forensic Science Laboratory has completed the verification of videos related to the May 9 incidents in Peshawar.

Furthermore, the forensic report, prepared at the request of Peshawar Police, analyzed audio-visual material submitted on a USB drive from East Police Station, Peshawar. The USB contained 16 videos, which were examined frame by frame to assess authenticity and identify individuals present.

In such a case, multiple videos showed no evidence of editing. However, some clips included the addition of logos and text. In two videos, there were indications that clips involving Chief Minister Suhail Afridi and Irfan Saleem had been joined together.

The forensic team compared the video footage with the profile pictures of the individuals. The analysis confirmed that the person appearing in the May 9 footage matched the profile pictures of Suhail Afridi, Irfan Saleem, Kamran Bangash, and Taimoor Jhagra.

Meanwhile, the forensic examination was strictly limited to visual content and did not include other forms of analysis. The report was prepared over a five-day period from December 19 to December 23, 2025.

So far, the verification was conducted following a request by the Anti-Terrorism Court, which had sought the police report in connection with the Radio Pakistan attack case. The Peshawar Police subsequently submitted the videos to the Punjab Forensic Science Laboratory for detailed analysis.

The report provides an official confirmation of the individuals’ presence in the videos while noting minor technical modifications, such as text or logo additions, in some clips. Law enforcement authorities are expected to use the findings as part of the ongoing investigation into the May 9 incidents.

The findings are expected to be presented in court proceedings as the investigation progresses, helping clarify the sequence of events and the identities of participants captured in the footage.
