US Suspends Afghan Immigration Applications After White House Shooting

WASHINGTON: The United States has indefinitely suspended immigration applications from Afghan citizens following a shooting near the White House.

The incident occurred when a suspect opened fire on National Guards in Washington. Two guards were seriously injured.

Authorities identified the suspect as 29-year-old Afghan citizen Rahmanullah Lakanwal. He is accused of shooting at the guards, who remain in critical condition.

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) said on social media platform X that all Afghan immigration applications will undergo a full security review.

USCIS said the suspension will remain in effect until security protocols and investigative systems are reassessed.
