IRAN: New explosions were heard in the Iranian capital late Sunday night, sending residents into the streets where they were witnessed chanting “Allahu Akbar” (God is Great), according to eyewitnesses and photographs from the scene . The blasts mark a further escalation in what the US military has dubbed “Operation Epic Fury,” now in its third day.
The overnight strikes come as the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) issued a stark statement on X, declaring that it has destroyed the headquarters of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). “The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) killed more than 1,000 Americans over the past 47 years. Yesterday, a large-scale U.S. strike cut off the head of the snake,” the command posted, adding, “America has the most powerful military on earth, and the IRGC no longer has a headquarters” .
According to CENTCOM, the targets in the latest wave of attacks specifically included the headquarters of the IRGC and its Aerospace Forces . The US military also confirmed it had struck Iranian ballistic missile sites and Iranian naval ships as part of the ongoing campaign to dismantle the country’s military infrastructure . Since Saturday, the US has struck over 1,000 targets across Iran .
The dramatic expansion of the conflict has resulted in the first American combat fatalities. CENTCOM confirmed on Sunday that three US service members have been killed in action, with five additional personnel seriously wounded during the operations . Several other service members sustained minor shrapnel injuries and concussions but are expected to return to duty . The deaths occurred amidst a barrage of Iranian missile and drone strikes launched in retaliation for the initial US-Israeli assault that killed.
