India labeled ‘Serious Concern’ over religious freedom

WASHINGTON: The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom has described India as a country of serious concern regarding religious freedom.

In its report, the USCIRF stated that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh is fueling hatred and oppression against minority communities.

The report further noted that several organizations, allegedly supported by the government, are involved in acts of repression against minorities.

As a result, the lives, religious rights, and personal freedoms of minority groups living in India are facing serious threats.

It also highlighted that the situation of religious freedom in India has become a significant international diplomatic issue.

According to the report, Hindu extremist groups have been involved in violence against Muslims and Christians.

The commission recommended that organizations such as the RSS should be banned and suggested that their members be barred from entering the United States.

It also proposed that any funds linked to such groups within the U.S. should be immediately frozen.
