WASHINGTON: The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has confirmed that a United States aircraft has crashed in western Iraq.
In a statement released on social media, CENTCOM reported the loss of a C-135 refueling aircraft. The command detailed that one aircraft went down in the western part of the country, while a second aircraft involved in the same operation landed safely.
CENTCOM further stated that the incident took place during “Operation Epic Fury.” According to the initial reports, rescue operations are currently underway at the crash site. No further details regarding the cause of the crash or the condition of the crew have been released at this time.
Earlier Iran has announced it will target economic and banking centers linked to the United States and Israel, escalating tensions in the region.
Ebrahim Zolfagari, spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya Military Command Headquarters, said Tehran’s Bank Sepah administrative office was affected in a recent US-Israel strike.
He said Bank Sepah, one of the country’s major public banks, was targeted by “terrorist” US and Israeli operations. He added that Iran is being forced to respond to attacks on its economic centers and banks.
Zolfagari warned local residents to stay at least 1,000 meters away from banks. He said the measures are a response to foreign interference and regional attacks.
The Israel-Iran conflict has now expanded beyond the battlefield into the economic arena. Iran has already disrupted oil transit through the Strait of Hormuz, affecting global supply and oil prices.
