UNODC and EU organize Judicial Ethics Workshops in Quetta

QUETTA: The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), with the support of the European Union, organized two capacity-building workshops focused on judicial ethics and integrity in Quetta, under the ongoing Deliver Justice Project.

The initiative brought together 29 judges including five women, from over 20 districts of Balochistan.

The workshops aimed to increase ethical decision-making, mitigate conflicts of interest, and validate the core values of judicial independence, impartiality, and accountability. It is rooted in the internationally recognized Bangalore Principles of Judicial Conduct.

In this regard, the participants engaged in dynamic, interactive sessions that included scenario-based exercises, real-life case studies, and group discussions. So far, the key themes included responsible digital conduct, unconscious bias, gender sensitivity in courtrooms, and appropriate use of social media.

These discussions mentioned how a judge’s behavior can influence public perception and trust in the judiciary.

In addition, Una Kelly, First Secretary for Rule of Law at the European Union Delegation to Pakistan, addressed attendees and focused on the importance of judicial integrity in upholding the rule of law.
