QUETTA: The promises made by the Balochistan provincial government and QESCO officials have proven hollow, as the issue of unannounced power outages in Quetta persists. Despite the intense summer heat, electricity remains cut off in several areas of the provincial capital.
Some of the sources report that the power supply system in regions such as Eastern Bypass, Sariab Road, Pashtoonabad, Kharotabad, and many others has collapsed. Initially, there was at least a load-shedding schedule four hours without power followed by four hours of supply which residents accepted.
However, the current situation has become unbearable, with electricity only available for a few hours a day, leaving the rest of the day in darkness.
In this regard, Quetta’s power system is not linked to Iran’s electricity grid, so the recent Iran-Israel tensions are not a factor.
The provincial government has repeatedly taken notice of the power outages and issued notices to QESCO officials.
In this sense, residents say the constant electricity shutdowns not only damage their expensive electrical appliances, but also spoil perishable food items due to inactive refrigerators.
The lack of power also disrupts water supply, making basic hygiene — bathing, cleaning dishes, laundry, and household sanitation an everyday struggle.
They plead with the government to show mercy and connect these areas to a stable power line so they can be freed from this ongoing misery.
