NEW YORK: UNAMA Faces Criticism for Not Addressing TTP Presence in Afghanistan The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has drawn backlash for its recent press release, which critics say ignores the infrastructure and operations of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) inside Afghanistan.
Detractors argue the report resembles Taliban media output rather than an impartial UN document. It highlights civilian impacts from a World Food Programme suspension (42 killed, 104 injured, 16,400 households displaced, and 160,000 people affected) but provides no evidence or methodology.
Critics point to United Nations Security Council Monitoring Team reports, which describe Afghanistan as offering a permissive environment for terrorist groups like TTP—estimated at 6,000 fighters—with logistical support, over 600 attacks (many from Afghan soil), financial aid, and training centers in provinces such as Kunar, Nangarhar, Khost, and Paktika.
The Global Terrorism Index 2025 noted 1,081 terrorism deaths in Pakistan in 2024 (a 45% rise), with TTP responsible for 482 attacks and 558 fatalities; the Pakistan Institute for Peace Studies reported 521 militant attacks in 2024 and 699 in 2025.
Calls are growing for UNAMA to release verifiable evidence and acknowledge TTP sanctuaries, or Pakistan will continue intelligence-based operations to protect its citizens.
Operation Ghazab lil Haq: Security Forces Repel Cross-Border Attacks in Balochistan and KP Under Operation Ghazab lil Haq, Pakistani security forces successfully thwarted multiple attacks by Afghan Taliban militants in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). In Balochistan (including Qilla Saifullah, Noshki, and Chaman districts), militants launched physical assaults on 16 locations and fire raids on 25 others—all repelled, resulting in 27 militants killed and several injured.
