ZHOB: A tragic collision between a high-speed passenger bus and another vehicle on the D.I. Khan National Highway near Zhob on Saturday resulted in the deaths of two people and left eight others wounded, including women.

According to rescue officials, the accident occurred as a Quetta-bound passenger bus, travelling at high speed, collided with a vehicle. The impact of the crash was severe, causing immediate fatalities and multiple injuries.

The injured victims were identified as employees of the People’s Primary Healthcare Initiative (PPHI), a crucial public health body. They were returning to their base in Zhob after completing their duty at a Basic Health Unit (BHU) in the remote District Sherani. The incident has highlighted the risks faced by healthcare workers serving in far-flung areas of Balochistan.

Rescue teams rushed to the scene promptly after being alerted. They worked to extract the victims from the wreckage and provided immediate first aid. The deceased and the eight injured persons were then transported to the nearest hospital for medical treatment and legal formalities. The condition of some of the injured is reported to be serious.

Local authorities have launched an investigation into the exact cause of the accident. However, preliminary reports from rescue sources point towards speeding as a likely major factor. The D.I. Khan National Highway, a critical but often treacherous route through Balochistan, has been the site of numerous fatal accidents in the past, frequently attributed to reckless driving, poor road conditions, and limited safety measures.

The community, particularly the healthcare sector, has been shaken by the loss and injuries of the PPHI staff, who play a vital role in providing essential medical services in underserved regions.

Meanwhile the National Party has positioned itself as a leading contender in the upcoming local government elections, citing its longstanding democratic struggle and early electoral gains. In a statement issued by the party’s provincial spokesperson, the NP reiterated its core commitment to establishing the supremacy of democratic institutions and ensuring timely local polls.
