ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s capital has become the focal point of intense diplomatic activity as top diplomats from Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt arrive for consultations aimed at de‑escalating regional tensions, with a four‑party meeting scheduled to begin on March 29.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan landed in Islamabad on Sunday and was received by Syed Ali Asad Gillani, Director General (Afghanistan & West Asia) at the Foreign Office, at Nur Khan Airbase. Fidan is set to hold bilateral talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on a range of bilateral and regional issues.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty also arrived separately on an official visit at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister Dar. According to the Foreign Office, Abdelatty will hold consultations on regional developments and is expected to call on the Prime Minister. The visit, officials said, reflects the close and brotherly ties between Pakistan and Egypt and their continued coordination on regional and international matters.
Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al‑Saud is scheduled to join the diplomatic push, arriving in Islamabad on March 29 for the high‑level meetings.
The flurry of visits comes as Pakistan intensifies its diplomatic efforts to prevent a wider conflict. In a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Ishaq Dar emphasized the need for de‑escalation, stressing that “dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path for lasting peace.” Dar also underscored the importance of an end to all attacks and hostilities, reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to supporting all efforts aimed at restoring regional peace and stability.
A four‑party meeting is scheduled to take place in Islamabad on March 29 and 30 under Pakistan’s diplomatic mission to help avert a potential war between Iran and the United States. The meeting will be chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and will be attended by the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt.
The Foreign Office confirmed that the visiting ministers will hold detailed discussions on reducing tensions in the region and on various issues of mutual interest. The distinguished guests will also meet the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
“I look forward to welcoming the foreign ministers of my brotherly countries Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt in Islamabad,” Deputy Prime Minister Dar wrote on X, expressing optimism about the upcoming talks.
The meetings are being held against the backdrop of rising tensions in the region, with the aim of making collective diplomatic efforts to reduce hostilities, achieve stability, and lower the risk of a wider war
