ISLAMABAD: Tehreek Tahaffuz Ayeen Pakistan (TTAP) has signaled its willingness to engage in talks in response to the Prime Minister’s offer of negotiations, while stressing that a new national charter is critically needed for any meaningful dialogue.
A meeting of the Tehreek Tahaffuz Ayeen Pakistan was convened under the chairmanship of Mahmood Khan Achakzai, with participation from Vice Chairman Senator Allama Raja Nasir Abbas and Asad Qaiser.
According to the issued declaration, the session also saw attendance from Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, Sajid Tareen, and Akhunzada Hussain Yousafzai.
The participants hailed the opposition’s recent two-day national consultative conference as a success.
The declaration noted that deliberations were held on strategies for observing February 8 as a “Black Day” worldwide, along with plans for a strike.
It stated that the Prime Minister’s invitation for talks was discussed during the meeting, and there was consensus on the urgent necessity of a new charter to pull the country out of its political and economic crises.
As per the opposition alliance’s declaration, readiness was expressed for negotiations under a new charter that includes transparent elections, the mutually agreed appointment of a new election commissioner, and the supremacy of parliament.
Participants affirmed their preparedness for dialogue to uphold the rule of law, protect human rights, and strengthen constitutional and democratic values.
The declaration added that, should agreement be reached on restoring the 1973 Constitution along with parliamentary and civilian supremacy, the alliance would accept responsibility for obtaining signatures from the PTI founder on the new charter.
The meeting decided to establish provincial and district-level sub-committees to ensure the success of the February 8 Black Day observance and street mobilization efforts.
According to the declaration, announcements regarding the formation of these provincial and district sub-committees will be made soon.
