LONDON: A British newspaper has claimed that former US President Donald Trump reversed his decision to launch an attack on Iran at the last moment.
According to a report by The Telegraph, several countries including Turkey, Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Oman appealed to Trump to reconsider the strike and urged him to give Iran another opportunity.
The report stated that Gulf countries had called on the United States to exercise restraint, indicating that the immediate threat of a US military attack on Iran has now subsided.
However, despite stepping back from military action, the Trump administration imposed new sanctions on Iran.
Sanctions were placed on 18 individuals, including Iranian National Security Adviser Ali Rejani.
In a statement, Trump claimed that killings in Iran had stopped and executions had been halted.
He also said that it remains unclear what role Reza Pahlavi may have in Iran’s future, adding that he does not know how popular Reza Pahlavi is among the Iranian people.
